Been looking for a local group, I was beginning to think that all Uticans were "ObamaDems"
I have just finished reading "The Mohawk Valley, its legends and its history"By William Maxwell Reid ,ChapterXXI "Oriskany" was a learning experiance for me, Why aren't we tought in school about our own history!!I knew of the battle but not of the severity or the importance!
The history of our area is absolutely understated in the battle for independance. The battle of Oriskany was without a doubt the unsung decisive battle that began the defeat of England. You can read most of it on Google free! Please read it as it will give you A little push inside to fight for what we beleve in. The sacrifice of our forefathers should not be forgotten! Shame on those in Washington today, They spit in the faces and on the graves of these men who fought so hard for our freedom!
Jim

I really enjoy reading historical accounts, especially those of local importance. I'm always astounded by the hardships and the sacrifices our first patriots and citizens made. Welcome aboard.

I just stummbled upon THIS GREAT site!! :D I am glad to be here.
Yes the battle of Oriskany was a very important battle. I remember way back in te day a "social studies" teacher I had in seveth grade name of MaryBell Dever, made us study the Revolution in depth...too bad this is not the norm today...as I remember it was indeed the turning point as after that victory the French entered the war as our allies..
Anyway where do we meet?? I have been wanting to get together with liked minded Uticans( I'm in Clinton), but until now didn't know where we all were...
